Prologue vs Early Access
Pax Autocratica Prologue vs Early Access: what Multiverse says is missing from the free version, including deeper automation, mechs and late-game systems.
Multiverse publishes an explicit “Notes about the Prologue” section on the Steam page, which makes this comparison unusually solid. Most of what follows is the developer stating the limits directly rather than anyone inferring them.
If you only take one thing from this page: mechs are in the full game and are not in the Prologue. That single fact is enough to identify which Pax Autocratica guides were written by someone who actually launched the game.
The Official Limits
Section titled “The Official Limits”Multiverse states that the Prologue:
- contains a limited portion of the full game;
- has a smaller scale of base and battles than Early Access;
- does not include certain advanced systems, naming deeper automation, mechs, and other late-game mechanics;
- may have content and balance changed before the Early Access release.
Everything below builds on those four statements.

What “No Mechs” Actually Costs You
Section titled “What “No Mechs” Actually Costs You”The full game’s description escalates combat from desperate skirmishes into large-scale mechanised war, with battlefields of infantry, tanks and mechs. Mechs are part of that top end.
The Prologue keeps the first-person roguelite combat loop — troops, cores, elite enemies, bullet-hell projectile patterns — but at smaller scale and without the mech layer. So the Prologue is a fair test of whether the shooting feels good to you, and a poor preview of what the late game looks like.
See the combat hub for what is confirmed about the full combat picture, and Sector Overlords for the elite enemy tier.
What “No Deeper Automation” Means for the Colony
Section titled “What “No Deeper Automation” Means for the Colony”Colony jobs are present in the Prologue: citizens can mine, gather, haul, research and manufacture. What is excluded is the deeper automation layer.
Multiverse has not published what that layer contains — there is no announced list of automation buildings, logistics systems or production-chain features. So the honest description is: manual job assignment is playable now, a more advanced automation system exists in the full game, and its specifics are not public.
Be careful with guides that describe elaborate production-chain optimisation as though it were documented. See colony building and jobs for what is actually confirmed.
What Is the Same
Section titled “What Is the Same”The Prologue is not a cut-down tech demo. These carry across:
- The core loop. Build, manage citizens, run expeditions, fight in first person.
- The citizen system. Fear, propaganda, surveillance and punishment, or comfort and prosperity — with citizens turning grateful, afraid, loyal or quietly rebellious. See citizen management.
- Prisoner capture and conversion. See prisoners and conversion.
- Cores. Weapon Cores and Combination Cores are part of the expedition loop. See cores.
- Expeditions into the Tyris System. See the Tyris System.
- System requirements. Identical, so hardware testing transfers directly. See system requirements.
- Single-player only. Neither version lists co-op. See multiplayer.
What Nobody Knows Yet
Section titled “What Nobody Knows Yet”These questions come up constantly and have no official answer:
Does Prologue progress carry into Early Access? Not announced. No statement about save transfer, unlocks, cosmetics or any reward for Prologue players.
Does the Prologue stay up after launch? Not announced. It is a separate listing, so it can remain, but Multiverse has not committed either way.
How much bigger is Early Access? Not announced. “Smaller scale” is stated; no multiplier, sector count, building count or hour count is published.
Is the Prologue’s Elysia sector in the full game? Not announced.
Anyone answering those with specifics is guessing.
Should You Play the Prologue First?
Section titled “Should You Play the Prologue First?”Yes, with one caveat.
It is free, it is the same engine on your own hardware, and it is the only way to test the loop before spending money on an Early Access build whose price is still unannounced.
The caveat is calibration. Because balance may change and scale is smaller, do not treat Prologue difficulty, timings or strategies as durable. Learn the systems, not the numbers. The beginner guide is written that way deliberately.
Prologue vs Early Access FAQ
Section titled “Prologue vs Early Access FAQ”What is the difference between the Pax Autocratica Prologue and Early Access?
The Prologue contains a limited portion of the full game with smaller base and battle scale. Multiverse names three excluded systems: deeper automation, mechs, and other late-game mechanics.
Are mechs in the Pax Autocratica Prologue?
No. Multiverse states that mechs are not available in the Prologue, even though mechs appear in the full game description. Any guide describing mech combat in the Prologue has not played it.
Does Prologue progress carry over to Early Access?
Not announced. Multiverse has not published any statement about save transfer, unlock carryover or rewards for Prologue players moving to Early Access.
Will the Prologue be removed when Early Access launches?
Not announced. The Prologue is a separate free Steam listing, and Multiverse has not said whether it stays available after the August 10, 2026 Early Access launch.
Is the Prologue balance the same as Early Access will be?
No. Multiverse states directly that Prologue content and balance may change before the Early Access release, so numbers and difficulty you learn now may not hold.
