Pax Autocratica Combat
Pax Autocratica combat explained: first-person roguelite battles with your own troops, bullet-hell projectile patterns, and escalation into mechanised warfare.
Combat is where Pax Autocratica stops being a colony sim. You do not watch battles from above and issue orders — you drop into first person and fight, with the soldiers your colony produced standing next to you.
Multiverse’s framing: this is war at scale, but you are not alone.
The Shape of a Battle
Section titled “The Shape of a Battle”Battles are roguelite FPS encounters that escalate across the game. The confirmed progression runs from desperate skirmishes up to large-scale mechanized war.
Confirmed battlefield contents:
| Element | Confirmed |
|---|---|
| Unit types | Infantry, tanks, mechs |
| Environments | Hostile ships, large-scale mechanised battlefields |
| Enemy tiers | Regular enemies, elite enemies, bosses, Sector Overlords |
| Projectiles | Bullets, lasers, missiles, drones, artillery, overlapping patterns |
| Your side | Your own troops, commandable |
The projectile list is the giveaway for what this actually plays like. “Overlapping projectile patterns” is bullet-hell language, and it is applied specifically to elite enemies, bosses and Sector Overlords — so expect pattern-reading at the top end rather than pure cover shooting. See Sector Overlords and bosses.
Your Troops Are Consumable
Section titled “Your Troops Are Consumable”Multiverse states you can order your troops to secure victory, or use them as expendable shields to achieve your ends.
That is the satire showing up as a mechanic. The soldiers are citizens from your colony — people you recruited, conscripted or converted from prisoners, equipped with weapons and armour your colony manufactured. Spending them to survive a boss fight has a cost that lands back home.
There is also a confirmed core type that turns troops into sacrificial shields for your survival, which means this is not just permitted but built into progression. See cores.
What is not published: squad size, command inputs, whether troops permanently die, whether losses affect colony population, and whether specific citizens can be assigned to your squad.
Roguelite Progression Through Cores
Section titled “Roguelite Progression Through Cores”Each expedition is a run, and within it you collect cores to grow stronger, survive longer and push deeper.
Three confirmed core behaviours:
- Weapon Cores reshape how your guns handle.
- Combination Cores create synergies between different core sets.
- Others strengthen your troops, or turn them into sacrificial shields.
Multiverse describes each run as becoming a shifting war machine built around you, your squad, and the chaos you unleash together. Full detail on the cores page.
No core names, counts, rarity tiers or tier lists have been published. Guides publishing “best core builds” for an unreleased game are constructing them from nothing.
Combat Feeds the Colony
Section titled “Combat Feeds the Colony”Battles are not a detour from the base-building. They are how it grows.
Expeditions into the Tyris System exist to gather resources, conscript new citizens and trade with wandering merchants. And weakened enemies can be captured and dragged back to base for conversion into citizens.
So a fight has three possible products: loot, recruits, and prisoners. How you fight determines which you get.
What Is Different in the Prologue
Section titled “What Is Different in the Prologue”The free Prologue contains the combat loop, but at smaller battle scale, and mechs are explicitly not available in it.
That makes the Prologue a genuine test of the moment-to-moment shooting and a poor preview of the late-game mechanised warfare the store page advertises. Anyone describing mech fights in the Prologue has not played it. See Prologue vs Early Access.
