Pax Autocratica Mechanics
Every confirmed Pax Autocratica mechanic: citizen moods, rebellion escalation, prisoner conversion and the colony job economy, with no invented numbers.
Pax Autocratica runs three systems at once, and the interesting part is that they feed each other rather than sitting in separate menus. Your colony produces the soldiers you fight with. Your battles produce the prisoners you convert into citizens. How you treat those citizens determines whether the colony holds together while you are away shooting.
This hub covers the colony and citizen half. The combat hub covers the shooter half, and exploration covers the expeditions that connect them.
The Three Layers
Section titled “The Three Layers”Colony. Turn a handful of survivors into a large, tightly run, self-sustaining settlement. Citizens are assigned to mine, gather, haul, research and manufacture. → Colony building and jobs
Citizens. Shape the population through fear, propaganda, surveillance and punishment, or through comfort and prosperity. Their mood is not cosmetic — dissent escalates into revolt. → Citizen management · Rebellions
Prisoners. Enemies weakened in battle can be captured and dragged home, then broken or converted. This is the mechanic that turns combat into colony growth. → Prisoners and conversion
Two Ways to Rule
Section titled “Two Ways to Rule”The game’s central choice is stated plainly by Multiverse: mould citizens through fear, propaganda, surveillance and punishment, or rule as a benevolent leader through comfort and prosperity.
Both are presented as functional approaches rather than a good path and a punished path. While citizens work for the State they may grow grateful, afraid, loyal, or quietly rebellious — four named states that map onto how you have been governing.
The escalation phrasing matters: dissent builds until dissent becomes revolt. It is a threshold system in description, not an instant fail state.
What Has No Numbers
Section titled “What Has No Numbers”This is where most Pax Autocratica guides go wrong, so it is worth being explicit.
Multiverse has published the names of these systems and nothing quantitative. There are no announced:
- loyalty, fear, or happiness values
- rebellion thresholds or trigger percentages
- population caps or citizen counts
- building lists, resource lists or production rates
- research trees or unlock orders
- timers, day counts or turn counts — the game is not turn-based at all
Any guide quoting “keep fear below 40%” or “rebellion triggers at 20 unhappy citizens” invented those figures. Several published Pax Autocratica guides describe turn limits, tax rates and cabinet appointments, none of which exist in this game — they are describing a political strategy title that this is not.
Where this wiki can only name a system, it names it and stops.
What You Can Verify Yourself
Section titled “What You Can Verify Yourself”The useful workaround is that the free Prologue has been public since December 2025 and contains all of these systems. If you want real numbers, the game itself is the only honest source, and it costs nothing to install.
Note the caveat from Multiverse: Prologue content and balance may change before Early Access, and deeper automation, mechs and other late-game mechanics are absent. Learn the systems now; do not treat today’s balance as final. See Prologue vs Early Access.
Pax Autocratica Mechanics FAQ
Section titled “Pax Autocratica Mechanics FAQ”What are the main mechanics in Pax Autocratica?
Three layers: building a self-sustaining colony, managing citizens through fear or comfort, and first-person roguelite combat. Prisoner capture and conversion links the combat layer back into the colony.
Are there loyalty or fear numbers in Pax Autocratica?
Multiverse has not published any values, thresholds, percentages or bar readings for citizen mood. Named states are confirmed but no numeric system is documented.
Can you play Pax Autocratica as a benevolent leader?
Yes. Multiverse describes ruling through comfort and prosperity as an alternative to fear, propaganda, surveillance and punishment. Both approaches are named as valid paths.
Which mechanics can I try in the free Prologue?
Colony building, citizen management, prisoner conversion, expeditions and first-person combat with cores are all in the Prologue. Deeper automation, mechs and late-game mechanics are not.
